Ris(h)i Jaiswal

I am the CTO at Transio AI and hold a PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Purdue University, where I was advised by Supriyo Datta and Joseph G. Makin.

My work spans physics and machine learning, drawing inspiration from biological systems to build AI that is energy-efficient by design and grounded in the physical world.

What I Work On

I have a long-standing interest in how nature computes. How do physical and biological systems process information so efficiently? And how do we build artificial systems that approach those fundamental limits? My research and engineering work centers on:

  • Spatial intelligence and robotics : 3D reasoning, embodied AI, autonomous systems
  • Bio-inspired, energy-efficient learning and inference : alternatives to backpropagation, probabilistic computing, stochastic neural networks
  • Physics-inspired AI : embedding physics into learning, Boltzmann machines, quantum-inspired optimization
  • Hardware-algorithm co-design : GPU kernels, FPGA prototyping, probabilistic coprocessors

Beyond Work

Outside the lab I train for marathons, lift weights, and get into the mountains whenever I can. I’m into high-altitude trekking. I like pushing limits, whether that’s a squat PR or a 5000m summit. I also read widely across learning theory, philosophy of science, and whatever rabbit hole catches my attention that week.
